The Return of Jor-El
While catching up on the latest CG news, I came across this link regarding the "resurrection" of Marlon Brando's character in Superman Returns.
Even though the techinque has been used in film and TV for quite some time, I still found it interesting to watch. The wizards behind this are Rhythm & Hues Studios located just a few miles down from my place.
As a side note, an interesting optical illusion is created when the head model rotates 180 degrees to show the head inverted- just like the walking portion of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. You can see another great example of this effect here.

Great blog Rob, not quite the bump map blog I was looking for but at least it was CGI related.
After watching that QuickTime video it seemed like a big effort to resurrect Marlon Brando just to hide all that hard work behind the icy crystals, but it's good to know that they didn't cheat on the quality.
