MacBook Pro
Rob and I were commenting on the new MacBook Pro name. I have to admit it's going to take me some time to get used to the new name. Steve Jobs commented in his MacWorld keynote that the reason they are changing the name is "because were kinda done with power" which infers that the PowerBook name came from the PowerPC chip.
Someone commented on MacRumors that the PowerBook name was used long before the PowerPC chip came out and it turns out to be true. Apparently the first PowerBook was introduced in October of 1991 and used a CPU from Motorola and they continued to use Motorola CPU's in subsequent models. It wasn't until 1995 that Apple started shipping PowerPC processors in their portable line so I'm not sure if Jobs was really telling the truth behind the new name.
The new name also leads you to believe that Apple will name the upcoming iBook with Intel processors the MacBook. If that turns out to be true then what will Apple call the next generation PowerMac? Mac Pro? We shall soon see.
