Duke Nukem Taking Forever

Every so often I wonder if the infamous Duke Nukem Forever project is still being worked on. Well there isn't any progress update yet but a recent article from GamesIndustry shows that at least they are alive. What happened was that some enterprising invidual decided to make a mod of the original Duke Nukem 3D game using the Source engine from Half Life 2. Apparently 3D Realms didn't like the fact that some other person was making progress on a true 3D version of their 1996 hit game so they shut him down. Pretty cheesy if you ask me. The web article also talks about a possible E3 2005 demo of DNF.

"Come get some!"

George Broussard, owner of 3D Realms has responded with the following on his web forum, "All I will say is that nobody outside the walls of this office has any idea what we are planning or not planning to do. As always, unless you hear something directly from us, you'd be wise to take it with a truckload of salt."

Further screenshots of the 'mod that will never be' can be seen here.

Macworld 2005 commentary

Well Steve does it again. After every Macworld Jobs announces new products and software which beckons me to hand over my credit card and reinvest in the most sophisticated OS platform on the market. Today was no different despite the early predictions of an "uninspiring", consumer oriented, keynote.

Sure, there were no dual core PowerMac G5s announcements but the new iLife with iPhoto's native RAW support and Final Cut Express with HD support are worthy headlines in my book. The newly announced iWork with Pages seems to make page design and layout a cakewalk for newbies. The Mac Mini and iPod shuffle should help to win over more converts from the PC world but it's pure speculation on how successful these products will be in the immediate to near future. Well I'm off to Apple.com now- so much to read, so little time.
