3D Photorealism

I've been meaning to blog about Joseph Kosinski's short film, iSpec, after I first saw it online in 2004. This was an early example of animation that personally blew me away in terms of photorealism. By today's standards it's more obvious that it's computer generated, but one can still appreciate the love that went into faithfully recreating the Colorado Lounge from Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Using 3ds Max and Mental Ray, the renders reportedly took over three hours per frame in order to achieve the realism that Kosinski required.

You can check out the director's other projects on his main page including the GOW Mad World trailer and his upcoming feature film directorial debut, Tron Legacy.
