Samsung LN52B750

I'm getting close to taking the plunge and feel this HDTV is the right fit. It's the Samsung LN52B750. Thanks to Marcos' link on CNET to get me started, I did some research and keep coming back to this.

Any comments or other suggestions?

Dave, I love my Samsung but may i offer an alternate suggestion? Sony offered Pacific Sales employees a special rebate program on a specific 40" HDTV. I really didn't need or want another TV since our bedroom 27" CRT was still going strong but the net price after rebate was so good we couldn't pass it up.

We ended up getting the Sony KDL-40Z5100 40" and we love it. Now keep in mind my Samsung 52" is a few years old so its unfair to compare the two but I have to say the Sony blows it away in picture quality.

Anyways Sony makes a 52" model called the KDL-52Z5100 that is 100 bucks cheaper than the Samsung one you are looking at on Amazon. I'm sure both TV's are nice and you would be happy with either one but give the Sony a look before you decide.

Will do. I haven't looked at the TV yet but have plans to do so. There is a specialty shop in the area that deals with home theatre's and stuff. Wanted to check them out before I look at the big box stores.

Hmm I'd say tough choice with prices being close. I used to be Sony only when it came to tv's, but after seeing how good samsung has been, especially with the "led" lcd's, I have a hard time choosing who's better.

I myself am still very happy with my old 26" Samsung from…5(6?) years ago! Maybe longer than that? I think either way you'll be happy, David! Now you have to get L4D2 and join Mark and I for zombie killin' time! Du eet!!!

Doesn't Dave also need the 360 to go with the game? :-)

Also I forgot to mention a few things I like about the Sony vs my Samsung.

The Sony has an anti-glare coating. My Samsung has a glossy screen which makes it hard to see the picture during the day unless I have my blinds down. How much of a factor this has for you depends on your specific room environment.

The Sony has a preset home calibration mode. As you know most HDTV's come from the factory in "full torch" mode which means its brightness/contrast/color settings are optimized for the showroom floor but look hideous when you bring it home. It takes some calibration to get the settings just right. The Sony had a "home" setting during the intial setup that is optimized for a more real world home setting. Not that you couldn't calibrate it even more but it looked so good with this setting I just left it alone.

The Sony had a nice interface, its the X-bar UI that is also on the PS3. Not a huge deal but its nice eye candy.

One negative of the Sony (might be specific to my model) is that the stand is fixed and wont rotate in any direction. Not a deal breaker for me since I placed it straight on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. I will look more closely at both models. The location where we will be putting the TV will be in a 'sunny' location. It will get light from all sides.
